Mason Spong
Mason Spong started out as a beat cop on the streets of New Orleans. He quickly rose the the ranks and retired as Lieutenant detective. But he wasn't done yet. He went on to become the lead investigator for the New Orleans District Attoney's Office. But even then, he wasn't done yet. High ranking in the Tulane University campus police. He worked his ass off all of his life to make sure justice was done, especially for the children in our community. He was the first and last Chariman of the Board of Directors for SCSA.
Gettin' to the bottom of it...
I met him when I was in 4th grade at A.D. Crossman Elementary School. He came to the classroom with two uniformed police officers. He talked to Ms. James, my teacher, and he yanked me out of class. All of my classmates thought I was in serious trouble, because he did that every other day. Nothing could be further from the truth; we were planning to take down a international pedophile ring - and we did. Boy Scout Troop 137. All of those bastards died in prision. Mission accomplished.
Beautiful Bride
So I started acting out. I got in trouble with the law, several times. Just stealin' cars from pedophiles, no biggie. He thought it was hilarious. Every time I got caught, he would arrive in the courtroom, he would bust in with three attoneys in dark suits. I never spent a day in jail, cases dismissed. He never yelled at me, never lectured me. He was kind, counseled me. He taught me how to park illegally, like a boss. He taught me how to drive fast on I-610. He would let me say dirty jokes on the police radio. But more importantly, he taught me endurance, resilience and redemption.
Mason Wigged Out
Mason was my Father when my sperm donor wasn't around, which was all of the time. He always had my six, and was gentle while guiding me. He raised many children, for which I am one.
The kids are gonna be alright...
When I heard the news of his passing, the world stopped. A hush fell over my heart...
Repose en paix Papa...
