SURVIVORS AND ADVOCATES TO ATTEND CRUCIAL BANKRUPTCY HEARING OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF NEW ORLEANS

The Press and Public are Urged to Attend in Support of Victims and Survivor of Clergy Sexual Abuse

New Orleans, LA - On Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 9:30 AM (Central Time), victims and survivors of childhood sexual abuse and their advocates will attend a pivotal bankruptcy status hearing for The Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The hearing will take place at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Louisiana, located at:

500 Poydras Street
Courtroom B-709
New Orleans, Louisiana 70130

This hearing marks the fifth anniversary of the Archdiocese’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing (Case No. 20-10846), a strategic legal move made in the wake of mounting sexual abuse claims and civil litigation. Survivors and advocates see this date not as a legal milestone, but as a moment of moral reckoning and a call for transparency, accountability, and justice.
A Heartfelt Call to Action

SCSA urges the press, concerned citizens, civic leaders, and all who believe in protecting the vulnerable to be present, either in person or virtually, to show solidarity with those who were sexually abused under the Archdiocese’s care and supervision, who continue to suffer the pain of institutional betrayal. If you are unable to attend the hearing in person, please join virtually:

Call-in Number: (504) 517-1385
Access Code: 129611

Let your presence be known; whether by your seat in the courtroom or your voice on the call. By standing with the survivors, you send a clear message:

We must not look away in our suffering.
