I was born at an early age. That is how I started my testimony when I spoke about being a childhood sex survivor. I had to lighten it up in order to go into detail about what happened to me. I believe it is very important to be able to talk about what happened to us, even publicly. It's important but not easy.
Since I gave my testimony in Church, in front of a bunch of people, many that I did not know, I started feeling that I was in a good place in my healing, I finally felt a place of thriving. I recognized what a contrast that feeling was like compared to when I first started getting healing for being a survivor. I realized that I wished that I could have coached myself back then, that the journey to this place of healing could have been shorter.
So I decided to do a podcast for survivors - to tell our stories, because our stories are so important and they can help other survivors.
That was over four years ago and the podcast is still going. It's called "No Longer Ashamed" I am the Host with my friend Laurie Hardy. We are both survivors and we are doing this for others who are going through this. It has been a wild ride at times. What we have realized is that the healing process is cyclical, there's layers and it never really ends. We have both had triggers, had to check out - or disassociate, gone through crisis. Doing this is not always easy. We have also learned that being able to talk about what is going on with someone can make all the difference. Having a way of sharing what you are going through is how we learn about it and learn how to cope better.
It's a process. I hope that our podcast can help with your process. Let us know if it helps you, if you like it or if there's something you would do differently. We would love to have your feedback, we're trying to help you to have a shorter trip to thriving.
